BACKSTORY
Aaron was born during the height of the third superhuman boom, and had no shortage of superheroes to look up to growing up. When he was 12, he discovered he had superpowers of his own (though who he got them from remains a mystery to him to this day--neither of his parents to his knowledge had abilities), and managed to keep it a secret until he revealed it to his close friend, Sara, at 17.
Sara encouraged him to go into the superhero business, and so Aaron became Bedrock, creating a costume from miscellaneous items from a motorcycle catalogue Sara's brother had. He took his job as a superhero seriously, but he was probably the only one. No matter what he did, he never made much of a name for himself among anyone other than a few villains he battled with.
It was a battle with one of these villains where he lost his left arm below the elbow. The ordeal traumatized him and he hung up his costume for good. Around the same time, a moderately well known supervillain named Chernobog lost his left arm in a different fight. This fight has haunted Aaron ever since, as people seem to think they are one and the same.
Still wanting to help the people of Mercury City, Aaron became a police officer and works the beat. He's currently trying to get promoted to detective, but as his fellow police officers are the first to think he's Chernobog, he's beginning to doubt that will ever happen.
ABILITIES
Aaron has the ability to create seismic blasts from within his body. Though the primary way to releases these blasts is with his hand, any part of his body can expel the energy. If he is touching the ground, he can cause it to tremor, as well as allow the blasts to travel underground to its desired target.
Since retiring as Bedrock, Aaron has rarely used his powers, though when he does he usually uses his foot to make the ground tremble, as it is less noticeable.
MISC FACTS.
01. Was born left handed, so he had to re-learn how to do everything after the accident.
02. Tries to catch a movie in theatres at least once a week, but will skip a week if he doesn't like anything out.
03. No one in his family knows he was Bedrock--they think he was injured as a bystander caught in the middle that fight.
04. Has three dogs: Buster, Max, and Lady.
05. Still has a scrapbook of what little articles he could find about himself when he was Bedrock, though whenever he sees it he makes a mental note to throw it out. He's hasn't gone through with it yet.

Character Info

Name: Aaron Hendrix
Alias: Formerly known as Bedrock; doesn't go by that anymore
Age and birthdate: 29; 1/13/1995
Home city: Mercury City
Type: Retired Hero
Occupation: Police officer

Appearance: Aaron is a tall man (6' 2") with a lean, athletic build as a result of a good diet and regular exercise. He has brown hair and bright blue eyes, and, as a result of his often forgetting to shave in the morning, usually sports a 5 o'clock shadow. Most distinguishingly, Aaron is an above the elbow amputee as a result of an accident during his Bedrock days. On his off time, he's usually seen without his bionic arm, but is required to wear it at work. The bionic arm is milky white, and when worn can mostly mimic that of a human hand. His PB is Lucas Bryant.

Personality: Aaron’s always been something of a serious person, but that aspect of him has only been amplified since his accident. For the most part, if it isn't practical, he doesn't see the point in doing it. This isn't to say he’s against non-practical things (he tries to catch a movie at least once a week, after all), but he just doesn't understand why people would do certain things, like jump out of a plane or risk their lives to fight crime… Though perhaps that last one is a result of what happened to him and less him unable to grasp it.
After all, ever since the accident Aaron’s harbored a grudge towards superpeople, heroes and villains alike. He thinks that they’re all trying to get themselves killed and force the ensuing paperwork on people like him. His childhood idolization of heroes has pretty much done a 180, and should he ever come across someone in a costume, regardless of whether they are a hero or a villain, he’s determined to arrest them.
Another result of the accident is this unshaking feeling that he’s alone in this world, that no one understands him since they don’t know the real him. He’s also at least partially aware that’s of his own design, as he’s determined to have no one learn he was ever Bedrock, a major part of his life, but it still bothers him. And at least part of it is justified—you can only be called a supervillain by total strangers for so long before you want nothing to do with them anymore, after all.
It leads him to believe from first impression that the other person will eventually want nothing to do with him, and as a result he doesn't try to make new personal connections, and tends to push those who try away. It’s led to many nasty things being said about him behind his back, and none of which about he was a former supervillain. This has also led to him having multiple partners over the years, as none of them want to stay with him for too long.
His temper certainly doesn't help matters, either. When he was younger, he was always cool and confident under pressure, a trait that, until the accident, had kept him safe as a teenage hero. And while this trait still extends to dangerous situations, it does not extend to interpersonal relationships. He’s quick to snap at other people or shout if he gets upset. This stems from people quick to make judgments about him, and him being fed up with it.
But despite everything that’s happened to him, he’s still very much the hero he used to be as a kid. Aaron still possesses that strong sense of wanting to do the right thing that guided him so well as Bedrock, and leads him to getting praise from his captains in his current job. When faced with a difficult decision, he tries to rely on equal parts forethought and intuition to reach a solution. So far this has yet to fail him.

Personal history: Aaron was born during the height of the third superhuman boom, and had no shortage of superheroes to look up to growing up. Rather than media figures, the posters in his room were usually real-life superheroes, and he wanted to be just like them. His parents, ever the realists, tried to remind him that the odds of him actually getting powers to become a superhero were slim to none, and encouraged him to have a back up plan. That’s when he decided he would become a policeman instead.
This all changed when he was 12, and he discovered that, despite his parents trying to teach him otherwise, he actually did have superpowers. Though he wanted to use them to help people, he knew he was far too young to put on a costume and save the day, so he would often practice his powers at night in a nearby park, leading neighbors to think there was some sort of underground construction going on at night, either by some sort of secret government program or a supervillain trying to set up a secret lair there. Aaron, ever the level-headed kid, knew better than to tell them what the trembling really was.
When he was 14, his parents divorced and he stayed in Mercury City with his mom, though he would visit his dad in San Francisco every so often, especially over the summer. After his parent’s divorce, he almost gave up the idea of going into the superhero profession, as he took the separation hard. But he eventually recovered from the break up with the help of his friends.
One such friend, Sara, he was hoping to become more with. And so, Aaron did what any 17-year-old with superpowers would—he revealed his abilities to her. Well, it didn't help him be anything other than her friend, but she did give him the final push he needed to enter the superhero arena.
With Sara’s help, Aaron put together the costume that would turn him into Bedrock using items found in a motorcycle catalog belonging to Sara’s brother. He took his job as a superhero seriously, but despite this fact, he barely made a name for himself. He was often confused for other heroes, no matter how wildly different their costumes might be (including girls, which always weirded him out). In fact, the only people who seemed to know his name (as far as Aaron was concerned) was himself, Sara, and one or two of the bad guys he fought on a regular basis (and even then they’d get his name wrong).
While this discouraged him, it certainly didn’t make him want to quit. He wanted to make a difference in the world, not get into the profession for the glory. Aaron kept throwing himself headlong into battles as often as he could… which was pretty often. See, at home his mother just had a second child with her new husband, so Aaron could probably knock over banks in the middle of the night and his parents would be too preoccupied to notice. And so Aaron spent all of his new, ample free time trying to stop as many crimes as he could.
It was one of these crimes where Aaron’s life would be forever changed. One weekend, Bedrock came across a domestic dispute between a supervillain he knew and her ex-boyfriend. He tried to break it up, but just when he thought the worse had passed, she threw one of her glue bombs at her ex. He managed to push the guy out of the way in time, but the bomb got caught on his jacket, and exploded while he tried to tear it off. As a result he lost his left arm below the elbow.
He managed to convince the EMTs to tell his parents he had simply gotten caught up in the explosion as a bystander, and thus managed to avoid his parents discovering his superhero lifestyle, but that was the final adventure for Bedrock. Traumatized by the ordeal, Aaron buried his spare Bedrock costume in the back of his closet (he was afraid it would be discovered if he threw it out) and began to figure out what he was going to do with the rest of his life.
Around this time, a similar accident would injure someone else in the superhuman community in an almost identical manner, someone a bit better known than Bedrock. Unfortunately for Aaron, this somebody was a supervillain named Chernobog. While he wasn’t the most famous of supervillains, he was still better known than Bedrock ever was, and thus began Aaron’s lifelong struggle with being branded a supervillain by some who saw his injury.
Aaron finished high school and got an associates degree from the nearby community college with plans to go into accounting. However, he couldn’t shake his desire to help other people, and, after discovering his injury wouldn't keep him from the police academy, abruptly changed his mind and decided to go into his childhood dream profession of police officer.
The former superhero quickly discovered that the hardest part of the job wasn't the physical aspect, or even the criminals… it was the other officers. Unlike the average person who was less likely to have heard of Chernobog, the police in Mercury City had a good idea of who all of the supervillains were, and as a result a lot of them were convinced he and the supervillain were one and the same. Several tried to get him thrown off the force, even though he’s proven time and time again he isn't the same guy.
It’s been 7 years now, and while he’d really like to make detective, he’s beginning to doubt it’s ever going to happen because of a former supervillain he has never met.

Powers: Aaron has the ability to create seismic blasts from within his body. Though the primary way to releases these blasts are with his hands, any part of his body can expel the energy. If he is touching the ground, he can cause it to tremor, as well as allow the blasts to travel underground to its desired target.
Since retiring as Bedrock, Aaron has rarely used his powers, though when he does he usually uses his foot to make the ground tremble, as it is less noticeable. Because he hasn’t been using his powers much, it’s a lot harder for him to actually use them when he needs them, as it no longer comes naturally to him.

Skills: Aaron is proficient with firearms as a result of his officer training, and has practiced that he could shoot one-handed, should something happen to his bionic arm, or if he doesn't have it and needs to shoot someone.
Also, while not bilingual, Aaron can hold a conversation in Spanish if need be. His accent is... well he can speak Spanish.

Weaknesses: Explosions. Aaron lost his arm when his sleeve got caught on an explosive the villain he was fighting threw at a bystander. As a result, the sight of something the shape of a grenade or loud banging noises leads him to freak out.
In terms of his powers, he can’t use them without concentration, especially now when he barely utilizes them. Until he actually starts actively practicing, him trying to cause anything larger than a small tremor is extremely noticeable by the strain on his face. If anyone chooses to disrupt his attention, either physically by striking him or by shouting to get his attention, whatever he was trying to do will cease as he concentrates on that. Once he starts practicing, he will take on a less noticeable expression, but still any sort of disruption in his concentration will get him to stop all the same.

RP Goals: For him to finally accept what happened to him, and to stop letting the comparisons between him and Chernobog get to him. This isn’t a point where he can reach alone, so I’m hoping that he could take an at-risk kid under his wing, and teach him how to be a hero without hurting himself, like he did. Through the acceptance of someone else, he can find acceptance in himself.

Third person sample: The dogs, Buster, Max, and Lady, were enjoying themselves in the local dog run when Aaron heard someone crash into a building just outside the park. The dogs didn’t even look in the direction of the noise, instead opting to play with the other dogs like nothing had even happened. Why would they? It was just another Tuesday afternoon in Mercury City, after all. The whole thing was a result of two super idiots punching each other out of some sense of importance. That sort of thing was never about heroics (or crime); it was about stroking your own ego and showing off how important you were. Aaron would know; he once called himself a superhero. A long, long time ago, anyway.
These days he was on the right side of the law, fighting for all of the right reasons, like making sure those two clowns went to jail for the destruction they were causing. He ran over to the fence where he had draped his coat over the dogs’ leashes so he could pull out his phone from said coat’s pocket. He might have been off today, but he wouldn’t mind working for a reason like this (his dogs, on the other hand, might be less than thrilled).
“Hey Stu we got another pair of super idiots giving their best Tyson impression down at the corner of Redfield and Monterey, you might want to get SWAT down here.” Aaron pressed the phone up against his ear with his shoulder so he had his hand free to throw the tennis ball Max had just dropped at his feet. “You sure there’s nothing you want me to do? I could evacuate the are—”
He could see the sirens before Stu could tell him police were already on route. Seems he wasn’t the last person in Mercury City to give a damn about these pointless super fights after all.
“Yeah, yeah, enjoy my day off. I’ll try.”

The greater good is…
A lie you tell yourself at night to keep the guilt at bay. It’s when you know what you’re doing is wrong, but you want to convince yourself otherwise, and so you tell yourself it’s for the greater good.

Your greatest strengths are…
My confidence under fire, my memory, and my instincts. None have failed me yet.

Killing is…
A necessary evil, but only as an absolute last resort. It’s something that seems to have lost it’s meaning lately, with all of these idiots running around doing whatever the hell they want and taking down anyone in their way.

Teachers and mentor figures would say you are…
Bright, but “doesn't play well with others.” It’s not my fault I’m tired of being judged by random strangers who don’t know the first damn thing about me.

Sacrifice is…
Losing an arm to protect a random stranger from his psycho ex-girlfriend.
Putting your own personal needs aside for another. Humans are all selfish creatures at heart, but we’re also capable of doing great things if we’d just stop being so goddamn selfish every once in a while.

When you were younger you…
Thought that becoming a superhero was a viable career choice. Then I got a clue and became a cop instead, so I could actually do some good with my life.
